Give your agent to design and book your entire trip for you. The worst you can do is design your own vacation package, then copy and email the same request to dozen different agents to see who may be the lowest bidder. Yes, the internet is perfect for that kind of information gathering but look at this from a perspective of a travel agent. If he/she knows you are sending the same request to dozen agents many of them will not be too interested in dealing with you. Then again, telling them the truth they will appreciate knowing what you are doing and approach the whole thing quite differently and in the end they just might offer you a deal.

5. If you’re after booking shoe-string cost of travel, for example wishing to book the lowest type of accommodations, best be your own travel agent. Do realize that agents can’t book services that are simply too cheap to begin with, not to mention that that kind of suppliers do not pay agent s any kind of commission. The agent may still help you but keep in mind he will be doing you a favor and will be working for you at no charge. If so, appreciate it, email your thank you.

Do realize that to ask an agent million questions, get all the answers, including time consuming quotes, only for you to never replay again is definitely rude and turns agents off completely. If you are polite and respectful many will often work without any commitment on your part, providing you with information you need, working for free. But because of those that just siphon info out of agents so they could possibly book travel on their own leaves not only a sour taste in agent’s mouth but certainly induces the decision to charge au upfront planning fees when a next inquiry comes.

6. On another hand, when it comes to upper end accommodations keep in mind these hotels routinely offer discounts to agents that agents can markup and still offer you room costs below hotel rack rates. Genuine agent is not interested in selling you a higher end hotel in order to make a higher commission but to tailor in a better trip experience for you where he deems it desirable.

7. Keep in mind that there is a difference between a travel agent and a so called Destination Specialist. Why should I use a travel agent to book my trip instead of booking it myself on the internet? This is a question I had to answer recently for a potential client with whom I was speaking to for the first time. As a travel professional, I get this type of question a lot.

In this article I will reveal to you how I answered this question and how you can benefit from using the services of a professional travel agent versus booking your own travel online using a travel search engine.

1. Save time.

Sure you can spend hours, days, even months researching destinations and going from website to website in order to plan your own travel itinerary, but why would you want to do that? Time is a precious commodity that we can never get back. While you are spending all this time doing research and going from website to website to see if you can get a better deal, you could have more easily picked up the phone to have a travel agent do this research for you.

Professional travel agents are trained to do this because it’s their job. A travel professional can do all the research, coordinate all the logistics, and put together a complete itinerary for your trip in a fraction of the time you can do it for yourself.

2. Use the agent’s knowledge and resources.

Travel agents are trained travel professionals. It’s their job to know the ins and outs of popular travel destinations. Now I’m not implying that a travel agent could have prevented all of this, but as a member of the travel industry, travel agents have special relationships with travel vendors. A complaint call or letter from a travel agent is more likely to get an expedited response than a letter from you, because of the agent’s relationship with the travel vendor.

I know what you’re thinking. You think that you’ll pay more to use a travel agent. It’s an incorrect assumption to think that using the services of a travel agent will be more expensive than booking your own travel online. Although some agents charge a service, the benefits of using a professional travel agent far outweigh the risks of not using an agent.

Everybody knows that the internet has changed virtually everything… especially the Travel Industry. Online giants like Hotels.com, Expedia, Travelocity, and Orbitz have revolutionized travel. Even Travel Agents & Agencies are booking online while the general public searches and buys their own vacations online. In fact, it’s estimated that 82% of all travel is now being booked online. Travel is one of the most researched topics on the internet… and also the most profitable.

The internet is simple, seamless and the perfect medium for the travel industry. We just point, click, and pack our bags. Before the internet, however, an agent’s bread & butter was commissions earned with business travelers… predominantly flights. American Airlines was the first to pull the plug on paying commissions on flight purchases as the internet started coming into its own and more business travelers were finding better deals online.

Since 1997 well over 200,000 agencies went out of business. Over 1 million travel agents lost their jobs to the internet. That number grew after 9/11. FAMs are put together by cruise lines, hotel chains and destinations worldwide. They usually include accommodation, tours, meals, shows, transportation, etc. Prices are slashed making it affordable for agents to travel multiple times a year… VIP!. The vendors roll out the proverbial red carpet for agents when they arrive. They’re given the most exclusive experience possible because vendors know that when agents return home… they’re going to talk about it!

The average person will purchase his vacation online at retail, once a year.

Agents will travel multiple times a year, all over the world as far and wide as they want to go, for pennies on the dollar. For this, FAMs continue to be one of the major perks today for agents in the industry.

Travel students, Baby Boomers and everyone in between are bringing travel home!

Leading agencies smart enough to follow the internet trend, have gone online and now offer just about anyone the opportunity to be professionally trained to operate and sell travel from home!! Woohoo!! That’s right! YOU can sell travel from the comfort of your own home and get paid!

Doesn’t it make sense that if you’re going to travel anyway (especially as much as the Boomers), that you buy it from yourself and get paid? Or get paid commissions on the trips your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers are taking already? Of course! Most people will do business with someone they know & trust. You may as well be that person, right?

Agencies quickly caught on to the franchise phenomena online and have opened up the opportunity to just about anyone with a valuable work ethic who is willing to learn. Coupled with word-of-mouth marketing… you’ve got a winning combination! The more knowledgeable you become, the more perks, FAMs, FREE trips, upgrades, etc, become available to you… cha-ching!

I’ve been selling travel for years. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m a travel industry professional. For more than two decades I’ve been asked “How did you come by this work?”

Storytelling

If you have listened to great teachers, preachers, and speakers, you have probably noticed that all of them tell stories when they are speaking. Why do they do this? Each point they make often has one or two different stories they tell to bring the point home.

The reason great speakers tell stories is because facts tell, and stories sell. This about a time when you were trying to influence your parents. Say, you were twelve years old and you wanted to be able to go to the skating park. Your parents were not sold on it, but you were not ready to give up.

You look at your parents and you say, “But Johnny’s parents let him go to the skating park. There are plenty of adults there and everything went fine with Johnny. It’s a good place to go and he was able to get exercise and meet new friends!” As you can tell, this is a story that you were using to sell your parents on your idea.

When we were kids, we already knew the importance of telling stories to get our point across, but oftentimes we get educated out of what works. We start trying to influence people with facts and it simply is not going to be as effective as telling stories.

Learn to tell stories since you are going to see much better results in your network marketing business when you do. You will be able to tell stories to show how your product is effective. You will be able to tell stories to show how your opportunity can help people. The more stories you learn to tell effectively, the more influential you are going to become.

Edification Gone Wrong in Network Marketing

If you’ve been in network marketing for any period of time, you have probably heard of edification. In this article, I am going to talk about edification gone wrong in network marketing.

Your upline or a training audio has probably told you about edification and how to use it effectively. While edification is important, you are going to find it comes naturally when people deserve to be edified. It is true that some people have a difficult time saying nice things about other people and they can learn how to tell people honestly good things about other people, but reading an edification about people is not effective in today’s world.

Let’s face it. We can see through fake and so can everyone else. If you have to tell your team to edify you over and over there has to be something wrong. Most of the time people are teaching people how to edify in a totally improper way that simply does not work.

You have probably heard it before, “Make sure to tell everyone my resume so they know how awesome I am and they are going to think I am near God when they are on the phone with me so they listen to me.” The truth is that this strategy backfires. Some people are not going to feel as if they are worthy of speaking to your upline.

Some other people are going to think this person is stuck up and the skilled people are going to be able to smell forced edification a mile away.
A simple, “This person has helped me a great deal and has been working with this company to create something great for his/her family,” is suffice. Take the hype out of the edification and you’ll be surprised at how your results are going to change for the better.

One of the things I see a lot in network marketing is job bashing and shaming. In this article, I am going to talk to you more about job bashing and shaming in network marketing and how it is hurting your MLM business.

J.O.B.

There are a couple of saying I have heard in network marketing that I have never used because I thought it was distasteful.

J.O.B. – Just over broke
J.O.B. – Journey of the broke

I understand. The presenter is trying to convince the prospect that they need to come on board with the network marketing opportunity because the job is not giving them what they want. How bad do you think this makes the prospect feel though? They may like their job. They may be proud of their job. They may want to create additional income to go along with their job.

If someone insults something you commit at least 40 hours of your week to, how likely are you to want to come on board with them? Not very likely at all.

The network marketing profession is good enough to show the benefits of without bashing or shaming another means of bringing income into their household. I have seen many people prematurely quit their jobs due to job shaming and this has resulted in the loss of homes and even divorces so when you are doing this, make sure you think of the long-term effects it could have on you and your team. While it may get them to do more activity for a short time, it is not going to be a good way to continue to motivate your team.
